Kobie Quest is a silly, low-stakes RPG for 1-6 players, requiring only one twenty-sided die (D20) and a bunch of pebbles. Absolutely zero prep time is necessary.
Like humans, kobies are really good at some things, and really bad at some other things. These failures and proficiencies are decided at total random. Use the Kobie Generator provided on this page to create YOUR unique little guy!
Kobie Quest is played in a world of the players choosing. Before the game starts the players should discuss what kind of world is interesting to them as well as what kind of challenges they find exciting.
Any player at any time may perform the duties of a traditional "Dungeon Master" by setting the scene and providing the world's reaction to other player's actions. Any player may choose to add elements to the game world, the truth of the gameworld's reality is determined communally. There's no single authority.
Kobies like doing things, unfortunately some things are more difficult than others.
How difficult an action is to perform is represented by a "Difficulty Rating", and a Kobie's success in performing that action is determined by a roll of the D20. If this roll meets or exceeds the difficulty rating, a success, if lower, a failure.
Determining Difficulty Rating is a communal effort.
Every player should be given an opportunity to explain why they belive the difficulty rating should be, taking into account the action-performing kobie's specific skills and their relevance (or irellevance) to the current situation.
Finally, when consensus is reached and a final Difficulty Rating is decided on, the die is rolled against that number... unless the kobie uses a special rock first!
Each kobie starts the game with 3 special rocks.
After the difficulty rating has been decided, but before the die is rolled, the action-performing kobie can spend any number of their special rocks, causing the difficulty rating to be lowered by 2 per each rock used.
ANY OTHER PLAYER may also use their own special rocks to make the roll more difficult, raising by 2 for each rock used by opposing kobies.
All used special rocks are redistributed to players with the fewwest rocks, in the event of a tie for the lowest the rock-user may distribute them arbitrarily amongst the tied. Kobies who used rocks in that instance should not be considered for redistribution.
